KBM DRAGONS CARE SHEET

KBM DRAGONS~CARE SHEET~GENERAL CARE BEARDED DRAGONS
Lighting
Bearded Dragons require a temperature gradient in their home as they cannot regulate their own body temperatures. You should have a basking spot at around 95-105 degrees F. where they will digest their food and warm up. But they also need a cool side around 75-85 degrees F. Lights out at night temps should not drop below 60 degrees. Use a good thermometer to check your temps.
● Do not recommend the use of hot rocks – they have the potential to harm your dragon. (Burns, electrical shock, overheating)
There are two types of bulbs that produce UVB—Mercury Vapor and Fluorescent Tubes. CHANGE your fluorescent tubes every 6 months –even if the bulb is still working. Bearded Dragons synthesize vitamin D3 when exposed to UVB and vitamin D3 is necessary for calcium uptake. When deprived of UVB your dragon may develop Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) Natural light is best try to take your dragon out when temps are good and sun is shining. Do NOT place your beardie in direct sunlight as they will overheat and could kill them.
Cages

Recommend that you house a single adult dragon in a 55-60 gallon aquarium. Babies and Small Juveniles in a 10-20 gallon aquarium. Dragons need rock and branches to climb on and get closer to the lights and they need a hiding place. Take care nothing can fall on the dragon, injuring them.
Substrates: Bearded Dragons live in desert sandy area. Sand may be used should be playground sand.
We have found that no substrate works really well. Paper towels work well, too. (But you will go through them). With bare floors cleaning is simple and thorough.

Feeding
Provide a shallow dish of clean water for your bearded dragons. They also enjoy a light mist of water and will often drink the water coming off their heads. Let them drink this way. Certain morphs i.e.: leatherbacks show with wrinkly skin and dry look when they are in need of a mist and /or drink. Do not soak them Bearded dragons are from the deserts of Australia and are not used to high humidity.
Feed Very small prey to baby bearded dragons. A solid rule of thumb is nothing bigger than the space between your dragon’s eyes. Small Dubia, crickets, BSFL, and red runners are all good choices. Feed all your dragons a bowl of fresh veggies and greens daily.
Greens such as Collards, Mustard Greens, Turnips, Dandelion Greens, Endive and Escarole are excellent mixed together for salad. They are readily available in your fresh greens dept. of your local grocery store. If using store bought wash really well. Pesticides can harm or kill your dragons. Grow your own is the most natural and cost effective way to feed green to your dragons. A planter box with a mix of greens planted is very simple to grow and you always have a fresh supply of food for your dragon.
Our dragons enjoy sweet peas , shredded carrot, red, yellow, orange bell pepper, acorn squash, butternut squash, and Repashy Grub Pie from time to time in their green mixture.
We feed our babies Dubia Roaches, Crickets (appropriately sized) small red runner roaches, BSFL and mixed greens daily.
Juveniles graduate to super worms along with the same as babies. They can digest the harder shell of the superworm as they grow older.
Adults get fresh greens daily. Superworm or adult Dubia and BSFL. Twice a week. Feed females with eggs developing need more food and lots of calcium with D3 added to all their meals. BSFL are excellent source of Calcium, Protein, and are great for gravid females and developing babies. Our mamas Love their Adult Dubia too!!
● Do Not feed too close to lights out. Do not feed for at least two hours before bedtime. Bearded Dragons use their basking spot to digest their food… they cannot digest properly when the lights go out.
Bathing and Cleaning
We bath our dragons once a week. Doing a thorough cage cleaning while the dragons soak and drink and usually use the bathroom in the water. Water temps should not be too hot 95-98 degrees F. Feel the water and make sure it is not too hot. Make sure the depth is no more than their shoulders. Place the dragon gently into the water. Some Beardies Love a bath! Some will always hate it. But a bath hydrates your dragon and cleans them too.
We clean feces and scattered greens out of our cages three times a day…. EVERY day!! Ugh.
On bath day all rocks and accessories are removed soaked in our proprietary blend of all natural safe cage cleaner, as the enclosure is cleaned as well.
